We are delighted that you are applying to UB’s 2015 Chemistry REU program! In order to ensure that your application can be considered, please note the following:

We are currently accepting applications.  We will continue to accept application materials until all positions are filled, but will review applications beginning February 10, 2015.

In order to be eligible for the program, students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled as undergraduate students in a college program through Fall 2015.  We cannot accept graduating seniors.  There is no GPA requirement.  It is not neccessary to be a chemistry major, but students should have taken basic chemistry courses.

Questions regarding the application process should be submitted via e-mail to chemreu@buffalo.edu.

The application consists of 4 parts:

  1. Application form (below). We encourage applicants to submit this form electronically; however, paper applications will be accepted via regular mail to the address listed below. Faxed applications will not be accepted.
  2. Official transcript. Applicants must arrange to have an official transcript sent to:

Dr. Janet Morrow, Director
Chemistry REU
University at Buffalo
526 Natural Sciences Complex
Buffalo, NY 14260-3000

  1. Letters of recommendation. Applicants must provide two (2) letters of recommendation from college/university faculty. Letters may be sent via e-mail to chemreu@buffalo.edu or via regular mail to the address listed above.
  2. Brief Resume including Personal Statement. This document should not exceed 3 pages in length and can be e-mailed (preferably in PDF format) to chemreu@buffalo.edu or sent via regular mail to the address listed above.
    • Resumes should include the following information:
      • A list of all post-secondary educational institutions (with corresponding dates) attended
      • A description of research and teaching experience or other university or science activities.  (Note that prior research experience is not a requirement!).
      • Any other information that the applicant feels will be relevant to consideration of his/her application.
    • Personal Statements should describe the applicant’s academic and research goals and long-term career objectives. Personal statements can be very helpful in demonstrating an applicant’s interest in chemistry, especially if the applicant cannot demonstrate this via coursework. Applicants should clearly articulate what they hope to get out of the program and how they believe the program will help them reach their short- and long-term goals.
